So, the times people have posted pictures of their rides, I've enjoyed looking at them. i decided to give it a try myself...

3 notes.
1. My camera is on it's last legs, if anyone has a recommendation for a point and shoot digital, I'm open to ideas.

2. The camera makes the top of the pics look pink, that is not how it actually looked. In fact, the clouds were very dark all during the ride.

3. Sorry if the pics suck, first time trying to do this.

starting off, the trusty steed.

The hills start as soon as you leave town.

The road is still going up.... hard to climb and take pictures at the same time.

not the steepest part of the ride, but the only one with a sign.

finally, some nice views for all the climbing.

after descending, cross the river and start back up again. You can see the road tilt back up to the left, on the other side of the bridge.

The climbing starts again, and thanks to the stimulus, there's plenty of off road sections.

I can't recommend a new digicam, but man that is some nice country you have there. I'm jealous.

Beautiful.

Thanks!

here (http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/nh/hanover/264124845339964911) is a link to the route on mapmyride.com.

as far as the pink sky, that is just the camera acting funny. I tried to crop the pics as much as possible but you can see it on a few of them.

Enjoyed the thread, looks like some nice areas to ride. I got a casio exilim for my bike camera, small cheap, 10mp only downside thus far is only 3x zoom. I carry it in a zip lock bag.

Those are the cleanest cycling shoes I've ever seen.

What's grade of the climb from the Conn. river up to Hanover? That must be a good way to end a long ride...

I can give you a recommendation for a compact camera suitable for carrying on a bike ride: the Panasonic DMC-LX3. Don't hold it against the camera, but Bicycling magazine also recently recommended this camera.

It takes great pictures. Fine image quality, compact size. It does have a couple of features -- a distinct personality -- that may for you be deal breakers: 1) no built-in viewfinder, LCD only; 2) lens goes from 24mm wide angle to 60mm [35mm camera equivalent]. It's a fast lens, too: F2 at 24mm. But the fact that you effectively have no telephoto other than what you can do with cropping may be a problem for you.

Here are a few photo sets I've shot with this camera on bike rides:

As I said, this camera has a distinct personality. When I was on Bike Virginia, I saw everything in wide-screen and panorama. Some of that is that the LX3 wants to see everything in wide angle and wide screen.

What's grade of the climb from the Conn. river up to Hanover? That must be a good way to end a long ride...

The bit from the river up to the stop-light in Hanover isn't TOO bad... but it can be rough if you've been doing a serious ride. I think it is around 250 feet over .4 mile. So, something like 12% grade? That actually seems high for that particular hill, so my numbers might be off a little bit.

In truth, there is another hill on NH Rt 10 to the North of Hanover that is known as "The Chieftan" (because of "the cheiftan motorlodge" which is about half way up) that is both steeper, longer and more leg busting after a long ride! It doesn't have any turns either, you see it coming from like a mile away and your legs start hurting in anticipation.
