Before I cut the steerer tube on my new $300 carbon fork, I'm investigating how I might keep my bars higher. With a carbon steerer tube, I'm limited with stack height and I'd like to have a bit more.
I learned that Serotta makes a headtube extender in 1" and 1-1/8" sizes. I'm thinking about buying... are there any issues I should be aware of when using these things?

I have one on an old frame with no extension...seems to work fine. However, once you press a headset bearing cup into one you'll go through hell to get it out (the cup, that is).

how about a new stem that has a higher angle to it like 15° - 20° range. most are ± 6° range...

I bought a used 1998 Serotta Ti frame with an extension on it and it works just fine. No problems at all.

Thanks for the input. Does installing an extender hurt the frame in any way, i.e., can the extender later be replaced with a headset cup?

The Serotta head tube extenders haven't been available for some time now.
