Would anyone on the forum have information on the Schwinn Peloton 853?

I know it's made of Reynolds 853, but where is the bike welded? I've heard Taiwan. Is this true?

How are the angles? I had a LeMond Zurich with 853, and could never get used to the longish top tube and the slack angles. Does the Peloton 853 have steeper angles?

I've also heard Serotta had a hand in the Peloton's design. Is this true?

Thanks.

The geometry is on the steeper side and is exactly the same as the Paramounts from the same era. I have one of the catalogs and can post the details later. I'm not sure were they were built, but as you stated these were welded as compared to the Paramounts which were offered in both Ti and Reynolds 853 that was brazed with lugs.

I'm not sure about Serotta's involvement with the design, but they did build the Ti version of this generation Paramount.

What size frame are you looking at?

I've heard they ride beautifully. Jeff N.

I have a 99 and it rides like a dream. Smooth and corners like it is in a rail. 74 deg hta, I think and 73 Sta. It is not a pretty bike but for a beater it is just fine

I'll be looking for a 50 or 52cm frame. I have a full brace of Ultegra parts for it when the time comes.

I had one and it was okay. Oddly enough I preferred the relaxed angles of Lemond Zurich more. The frame sticker said made in taiwan.

designed in Waterford built in taiwan, swaged tubes, manipulated stays, poor mans Serotta. I beleive Serotta type details were incorporated, through familiarity perhaps even jointly. Get one, you won't be sorry, Earlier ones had aluminum forks later ones have carbon.

Yeah - I'm liking these Pelotons the more I see them. I could care less where it's welded - Taiwan knows how to well, AFAIK.

Unfortunately $$ dictates I relax a while with purchases. Maybe by Xmas I'll buy a little brother for my Ti Paramount.

We'll see...

I demo-rode a new one in the late 90's and thought it rode well but, as you can see in the geo chart posted above, they have relatively long top tubes.

If the 853 Peloton has the same angles/dimension as the Ti Paramount, in my size (53cm) I can deal with the top tube length.

Other 853-based frames, like the Lemond Zurich, it just didn't work for me.

Spline design or whatever it was called...my body just didn't get it.

That's the main reason I can use one. 62-3/60.5 puts it in the very bottom of my useable range for a short range commuter beater.

They give a nice ride.
