Help, which wheel I should use for an upcoming road race this weekend.

The race is a hilly circuit of 42 miles (7 laps) with a nice 6% climb in the middle. I am 190lbs (I love pizza) and the roads are supposed to be very bumpy.

My choices:

1) Campy Nucleon tubies (20 and 24 holes) newly acquired from fellow forumite with new GP4000s glued

2) Mavic CXP33 clincher laced to record hubs 32 holes, brass nipples, straight guage DT spokes. Sherman tank wheels.

I am not sure if the combination of the roads being very bumpy (although I never have ridden on them) and me being 190 is not a good idea with Nucelons. The CXP33 are probably stronger due to the number of spokes but heavier.

So, I am going to use one of my Lifelines and poll the audience...

Treat yourself: Nucleon tubies. Good wheels are for times like these.

If seriously in doubt, go preride tomorrow and decide then.

Course is on the military base; hence, no pre-ride availability.

I will take out the tubies tomorrow.

The Nucleons are great hill climbing wheels.

I'd go with those, and bring the rear Mavic along, just in case...

Rode Nucleons everyday at 205, never had a problem, really great wheels, would still have them but they were clinchers and i made the leap cold turkey to tubulars, (glad i did too!)
