Tour Divide Update

Matt Lee won the race Tuesday morning. He completed the 2745 mile route in 17 days, 23 hours and 45 min.

I'd love to do that route in about three times as slow...so cool.

I've been following the Tour Divide for the past few weeks.

Jamie Thomson's phoned in updates make me smile.

I'd sure like to tour (not race) that route.
I guess I'm going to have to learn about mountain bikes.

My buddy Rick Ashton disqualified himself when he went of course to find food and then came back to the course. He continued on unofficially after that, but stopped at around 1200 miles since he was at a place where he was close to getting available transportation back to Florida.

Rick stopped by the bike shop the other day. It was good to see him. He had lost about 10lbs. Rick was slightly bummed as he felt he should still be out there and also felt he had let folks down by stopping. Baloney, Rick did great!

Because of the amount of bad weather (rain, thunderstorms, etc.), Rick stated it was getting very expensive to be out there since getting nightly lodging was preferred over tenting it in the rain and cold. He had high praise for all the racers. His description of the scenery and course was exciting. Looking forward to seeing his photos. Rick was, according to him, the "old man" in the race at age 62, soon to be 63.

I've been following the race since it began. Jill Homer is tough and just amazing and Rick stated that Deanna, on a fixed gear, was "a great little gal", too.
