View Full Version : Are Michelin Pro3s narrower than Pro2s?

I just bought my first pair of Michelin ProRace 3 tires. I went for 23mm tires as the 25mm ProRace 2s I had on my Pegoretti are too big for my new Look.
But man, do the ProRace3s seem narrow. Michelins always seem to run wide for the stated size. Has anyone else noted that this might not be the case with the new ProRace 3s?

Steve-itching to get some miles on the new bike.

yes.

The Pro 2 25s were closer to 27.5 to 28

The Pro 3 25s are true 25s.

The PR3 is a little narrower, but none of the four PR2 tires I'm still using measure 25mm either - closer to 24mm. Of course it can vary depending on the rim width and tire pressure. I've got two on Fulcrum Zero wheels and two on DT RR1.1.

sorry for the drift, but how much mileage are people getting out of their Pro Race 3s?

My rear Pro3 Race tire gets changed between 2k and 2.5k miles. Front usually is changed at 2.5k. Other than small cuts from debris, tires have done well for me. Tire life is perhaps 500 miles less than the Pro2's I used to use.

I am lucky if I get 1K miles out of the rear Pro3. I love the way they ride, but they wear awful IMHO.

I am actually going to try some Vittoria Open Corsa tires and see how they work out.

I wore out a rear pro3 in 2015 miles. The worst part of it was that I checked it in the morning and it looked OK but 71 miles later the center of the tire was completely gone all the way around with some large areas where it was starting to bulge with the tube coming through. I've never had a tire go off that fast. Oh, and it was relatively cool and raining intermittently all day.

i'm curious as well since i've been using PR2's 25's and been happy with the mileage had pretty good luck with lack of flats.although i do use the PR2 23's service course on occasion.seems as though the riders weight might be relative to this discussion.my experience is the heavier guys i've known seem to get more flats and wear tires quicker.meaning over 200lbs.have not tried the PR3's yet but have a pair of 23's but havn't mounted them yet and the PR3 25's are a little harder to find and i still have a good stash of PR2's

I notice that PR3 wears quickly on a Ksyrium SSC SL but I seem to get more out of one on a Campy Neutron. Strange, that.
