I have an AL seatpost in an AL seat tube. About a month ago I had an annoying squeak which I traced to the seatpost. I removed the post, cleaned it and tried to clean the inside of the ST. Re-lubed the post (Finish Line white grease) and reinserted. Silence. Great, problem solved.

On Wednesday the problem returned, and on Thursday it got to the point where it was driving me nuts,

Is this likely to be a “choice of lube” problem, a clamp problem, or something else?

Any lube recommendations that work for seatposts? What do you use to lube the seatpost-ST interface? Nothing?

TIA
Louis

Try a little FrameSaver in the seat tube. Make sure that it's spread all the way around and down about 3". A little messy at first but when it dries it makes for a quiet post/tube interface.

Try anti-seize compound instead of grease.

Be sure it's not the saddle rails making noise where they meet the shell, or at the clamp.

A good chance that this is your problem.
