Days like today make me think I could be happy never riding a road bike again. No cars, no exhuast, no rednecks in pickup trucks.

Today it was perfect, a tiny bit of moisture in the ground, the trees so thick no sun was coming through.

No people, only person I ran in to was my wife.

I sold my last road bike three years ago and don't miss it.

Ah, but variety is the spice of life. Looks like you have a sweet place to ride!

Awww, what a sweet couple ;)

I know what you mean about woods vs battles with cars, but by the same token, there's that feeling of cruising downhill a smooth, curvy road, feeling the speed and enjoying the handling of the bike that's just not as sweet on an MTB.

They each have their sublime moments.

You just live in a bad area for road biking.
I go out on a 2 hr ride and see maybe a dozen cars on great
country roads. If anything, around here the single track trails
are too crowded for my taste.....

That off-road looks more like a road than many of the roads around here...

for evidence, consider Door County, WI

one more dissenting opinion (even tho I like both dirt and road)

On the road, you're going some place. Around here, it can resemble being in another country when you stop in the local general store to refuel. There's a big sense of accomplishment in it for me.

Also, once the mercury rises, I sure do prefer the feeling of the wind in my face over the stagnant heat in the forest.

I have no plan of giving up my road bike, I just had a good ride and was talking about how much I like mountain biking.

Have a good ride today, no matter what bike you choose :)

I could never get used to the flat bar, I've always liked the drops of a road bar. I've always thought suspension forks were a bit silly. A rigid fork always felt better to me. The closest I can get to a mountain bike is a cyclocross. I am of course not immune to the joys of asphalt and a road bike.
