Hi, does anyone know of any person/company/etc. that does good artwork? I want some figures painted on my bike, etc. Was wondering if someone could recommend a few names that they had dealt with or heard good things about.

CycleArt in San Marcos CA has done some really cool stuff in the past, can't remember their website but Google will find it for you.

You want actual art on your frame? Like those custom Cannondales, some of the Australian track frames, etc? This might be your source:

She can turn a Schwinn Varsity into ultimate bike porn. I'm thinking of having her paint a Look track frame for me.

I tend to like very simple finishes - I was surprised how much I liked some of her anodized Ti stuff!

Just getting a few figures added to your paint job is more compicated than you may think. What kind of paint is on your bike? Is there clearcoat? Do you want clearcoat over the figures? Do you want or need the whole bike repainted?

If you just want to add a few figures, the question becomes what kind of paint is under them? I found out the hard way that some of the paints on the steel lemonds will disolve when you try to touch them up - makes a bigger mess than you started with. CLear coats are often a problem as they are designed as the most flexable paint surface. If you put a less flexable paint on top of a more flexable paint you get all kinds of cracking. Then there is the issue of it blending in, a good paint job will have "depth" to it because they clearcoat the thing, sand down the high spots and add another coat of clear. When it's done the top surface is all one level, details and all.

If you just want to add a few things to the bike, there is a cheating method. There are decal sheets (the brand I use is called Videcal) that are clear or white, and can be printed on most inkjet printers. So, you print your artwork, spray their clear coat onto the decal sheet, and in minutes you have your artwork ready to be water transfered onto your bike.

As for true artwork in bike form, check out http://www.bikelugs.com or look at the '05 IF catalog on the page with the XS, in the bottom right corner there is what they call "ultra custom". Just don't call it bike porn, OK???

What's the matter with calling it bike porn?

it's more a sado-masochistic thing anyway looking at all those wonderful lugs.
