That isn't a terribly uncommon injury among children. The impaled part makes it a bit more uncommon although I've seen it a couple times in 20 years of ER work, bikes and motorcycles. Blunt trauma from bicycle handlebars is a fairly common source of spleen and liver injuries among kids, which of course are most common in motor vehicle collisions.
