A quote from one of the inmate riders:

"It's a kind of escape for us, a chance to break away from the daily reality of prison," said a prisoner identified as Daniel at the project's launch in May.

He really may want to be a bit more careful with his word choice...

How about
"It's a kind of escape for us, a chance to break away. I know that there will me some murderous days in the mountains and I'm sure that some will be caught off-guard by the attacks on the climbs. The whole event should be killer."

Sort of like staying in youth hostels.

I admire the thought behind the initiative, for rehabilitation and future societal re-integration of inmates.
