Hello-

I'm heading to this part of Central Oregon in early August. I'm looking for rides that will take me up into the Cascades. Any help is appreciated.

-Thanks, Todd

Lucky you! *sigh*

I think SadieKate should be able to help.

You should be able to find one here. And with a Garmin 605 or 705 you can download it and don't even have to think too hard about finding your way...

Old McKenzie Pass - check to make sure its open - maybe be construction closures. Check on line at Map My Ride - the Cascade Classic stage race was out of Bend for awhile and there are probably lots of routes.

I'll be over there Friday but no time for riding unfortunately.

I remember doing the OBRA State RR Championship out of Bend...beautiful area to ride. I can't give you specific routes since I was based in Corvallis but definitely gets some rides in if you can.

Ride with GPS for local routes.

Sorry, I haven't been on in a while! Enjoying all the benefits of the dry side of the Cascades! Hint for one of those:

Are you looking for road or dirt?

Good source here for road:

The Cascade Classic and the Nats sites both have maps. If you tell me what looks good, I might be able to help with more detail

If you want a full century, ride from town and then around Bachelor (counter-clockwise is mo' fun so you climb up the smoother pavement of the Sunriver cutoff). You can make this shorter by parking at the Vista Butte snopark (basically a wide spot in the road with a sign) and just do the 54-mile loop around Bachelor. Beautiful, beautiful ride. Carry extra water or plan to ride down into Elk Lake Resort on the west side. Basically, just carry extra water no matter what.

Hutch's is supporting this shorter loop for a whopping 5 bucks on Aug 2

If you want views of the Cascades, do the flatter rides out east of town. Spectacular sights of the Bach, Broken Top, the Sisters, etc.

Iffin's you want dirt rides, let me know and I'll post more but you'll have to invest in a map.

Oops, I forgot that Scott just published a road map for our area. It's so new it isn't on his site but it can be purchased at all the area LBS for $10.99. His maps are excellent, well-researched and reliable.

If you go mtbiking, you want the mtb version. We have so many trails here, you'll get lost in Paradise in no time.
