What;s the verdict on the Campy's current "skeleton" brakes?

They're a bit lighter, but I'm not so much concerned about saving 12 grams on my brakes.

Do they stop any better than the previous generation?

I've built one bike with skeletons and notice no difference vs. prior generation.

Spins around the block don't really count, though. 'Twasn't my bike.

I don't know about the previous version, but the current ones work VERY well. I have a set on my new bike.

No.... And are actually more of a pain to clean than the older ones. But they surely look nicer!

I think they do stop a bit better than my old Chorus brakes actually. I always switched out the standard pads on my old ones for something better braking but faster wearing. Have not felt the need with Record skeletons, at least on my 'dry' bike.

So many variables mind you. Different cable set could be just as responsible for what feels a 'tighter' response.

I certainly would not swap perfectly good old ones for them unless I was changing the whole group.

if you want record brakes the models '06 prior to skeleton are the same and cost a lot less, easier to clean and I think more titanium bits

Only tried the old ones. Why can't the centaur brakes have aluminum parts like Record?

The Centaur has always been so heavy. new ones did not shed much in weight.

Look at a SRAm brake, then compare Centaur. ouch.

Old Avanti brakes (about the same level as Mirage in today's line) are good enough for Obree. :)
