Besides the tri bike as shown here:

were there any other models of serottas that had the wishbone?

Hmmm ... my early 2004 Legend Ti ST has a wishbone. And as a side note, my Trek WSD 5.0 Pilot also has a wishbone.

Personally, I like mine. :)

don't all the current models have rear stays like that?

Ottrotts do.

daveIt doesn’t look that bad (or were there functional problems?). Aesthetically I can take it or leave it. For my taste a wishbone looks a little better on a modern carbon frame than a traditional steel one, but to each his own. Functionally I doubt there is much difference; not enough to sway my purchase decision in either direction.

My issue with that old monostay design is the very small diameter of the upper portion. It's too small in diameter to properly deal with the braking forces and it gives the rear end a mushy and vague feel.

The newer designs, with their large diameters, work very well.

I believe the problem is less triangulation.

I believe the problem is that paint job...

I believe the problem is less triangulation. Is it a “theoretical” problem or an actual problem? With proper size tubing or transition (when done in carbon) it doesn’t look that much different than a fork, and most of them do just fine.

I would also think that triangulation is effectively decreased to a great(er) degree when seat stays are curved, and that hasn’t kept manufacturers from using them. But what do I know; I like just about any bike with two wheels.
