Hi to All Velomasters:

I am looking at a Serotta TG steel frame (yellow 54cm) to possibly build a road bike for my wife at a local bike shop. It has Colorado type seat and down tubes. We would put a carbon fork on it (currently the fork is steel) and Shimano 105 along with a decent wheel set.

Does anyone know the history of this model frame?
I'm told it's about 8-9 years old.

Any comments about that model are appreciated.

PS I currently own a Fierte steel and absolutely love the ride.

Why not get her a Fierte???

as to TG, it was a capable bike and is about 10 years ago that it was built...

Hope that helps.... PETE

If it's labeled "TG" it's a good 12 years old at a minimum.

I'm trying to stay up to $ 2k in the budget department. How does TG compare to a 2005 Fierte steel in performance?

Serotta steel forks ride very well so I wouldn't waste $$ replacing it with carbon until she's ridden enough to know what she does and doesn't like. She may want a whole new bike or be happy with it just the way it is now.

Had a Colorado TG (1994 model). Great riding bike, but would suffer a little bit in comparison to your Fierte, I would think.

Also... if she's a novice rider, it had fairly significant toe overlap. She may not enjoy that aspect of the geometry.

I would think you could get a built-up TG for way, way under $2K.
