i can't be sure but i'd bet it's this one. yes, filippo "i'd follow boonen's wheel into hell" pozzato has a custom damocles, but stock this baby is $1899 for f/f. hard to image anything cheaper, yes?

i had an excalibur. for cheap carbon, it rode surprisingly well. a workhorse, nothing more but bang-for-buck, ridleys are pretty decent. and their geo's work for me. but dang, it's surprising to see the guy who finished second riding a bike this affordable. nice but surprising.

The aluminum Canyon's the Silence-Lotto guys were riding is pretty cheap too. Around 1500 Euro's. Always did find it interesting that some pro's (Cipo, Floyd) seem to prefer aluminum when buying their own bikes.

Just saw this after posting the Canyon thread. 999 Euro's on sale right now.

. . . about the biggest downtube I've ever seen on a bike. Larger at the head tube junction, too . . . weird. Also note the Lightweight wheels, which probably cost 3-4 times as much as the rest of the bike put together.

According to this, some of the Caisse d’Epargne riders were on aluminum Pinarello cross bikes -- if they're like the stock model, they must be pretty darn inexpensive (relatively speaking). Although Pinarello has a more expensive CF option, I think that their AL cross bike sells for just over 2k in the US as a complete, ready-to-ride bike. No doubt the kit was different at PR (super record, etc.), even if the frames were similar, but still . . .

Part of the appeal of watching P-R every year is the non-bs equipment the pro teams pull out for this race. It's not always the flagship frames that get used.

Box section rims, alloy seat posts, and aluminum or heavier carbon frames, cross frames instead of road, 25-28mm tires, aluminum bar & stem, etc. I like the combination of (relatively) low cost rims and frames with a high-end Super Record, Red or DA group on it. The right tool for the job approach.

Newer version with integrated seatpost...

Trickle down in action I guess - only a couple years ago, the Damocles was their top of the line (with Helium) but now the Noah is.

The "regular" Damocles is a great bike for the $'s!

is how 6'0" Pozzato has a longer BB-top of seat length than 6'4" Boonen, according to the Cyclingnews reviews, yet Pozza runs 172.5 cranks and Boonen runs 177.5s. Pozzato must really be stretched out on that thing.

I felt he looked more aero than Boonen as he chased him but Boonens diesel overdrive kicked in. Anybody else see the rear of Pozzatos bike dance way more than Boonens?

If there is another open house, I'm going to show up with a base model Specialized Allez which has been in our rental fleet for 5 years...

$1,307.13 USD for the Canyons. Vansummeren is one lanky dude, and he was pummling the peloton out front for quite a while on that ride.
