View Full Version : Reinforcing a carbon steerer tube?

I have been running profile compression plugs in my carbon forks. These give the most coverage. I really like the alpha Q system. Has anyone made an insert for Reynolds or Colnago forks? Starting to see more damage around the headset "top bearing race" these days. Not on my forks but in the shops.

The only problem I see with the aluminum support tube that has been linked is potentially inadequate length. Alpha-Q increased the length to 125mm because the 100mm length only allowed 2cm of spacer. To support the steerer properly, the tube should extend slightly below the bottom of the upper headset bearing.

Proper gluing is also needed. Apply a generous coating both the tube and steerer. Turn the fork upside down so the glue doesn't run down the steerer.
