I'm interested in revisiting my cleat adjustment and I had a few questions. Firstly, I've got Andy Pruitt's book, but are there any other good references on this topic? Is the RAD system still popular and should I find a shop still using it? And finally I've always just used a sharpie to mark my initial cleat position on the bottom sole of my shoe then adjust the cleat from there. The problem with this method is, of course, that half or more of your original marking is not visible as you move the cleat around on the sole of the shoe. Anyone have a better method than the sharpie to "micro-adjust" a cleat position? TIA

As long as your heels aren't hitting the crankarms, you should have enough float so rotational adjustment of the cleats isn't an issue. If you used fixed cleats, then of course you've got to find a method.

Andy Pruitt's book is a very good, all-the-knowledge-in-one-place book. If that doesn't satisfy you, then I recommend you download a copy of the following book. It's not as well written as Andy's book but he had Fred Matheny to help out. Anyway, all the information is there and it's from a reputable coach, cyclist, and doctor. I have this e-book and think it's a useful complement to Andy's book; a different perspective.

My personal opinion is the best advice is on cyclingnews.com.

I moved my cleats back as far as possible as I had pain in the joint of my big toe. My pain is gone and I feel like I can crank out more power and am smoother. I like the people who write on the fitness section of their site. You can email them questions which I have done a few times and gotten great responses.
