the fixie kids over at BF are discussing using a 'heads up' in reverse (below the head tube) to push the front wheel away from the down tube...
why? madd barspinz, what else?
strikes me as a bad idea. screws up the geometry at the very least. curious what you all think.

Head tube angle gets messed up really bad, tell them not to do it.
an old saying comes to mind...
Just because you 'can' do something doesn't mean that you 'should'.

i'm not telling them anything that i haven't already...which was exactly this.
they're an ornery bunch of know-it-alls for sure.

That would make it a "bottoms up".
Dude . . .
tell them it would be fine, as long as they're willing to remove a corresponding section from the middle of each fork leg.

NO!
The stresses on the bottom of the head tube are FAR great than on the top.
If you do this it's almost a guarantee you will break stuff and get hurt.

Jeez. This thread brings to mind my all-time favorite Bloom County cartoon panel, in which Portnoy wants to get his hair cut like Billy Idol, because "simply everyone is doing it". Opus replies with a story about all of the penguins in the Falkland islands falling over backwards watching the British fighters fly over, and finishes by saying, "Even though everyone is doing a stupid thing, it is still a stupid thing.".
Tried to find it on line, my seach skills aren't up to par.
Happy Saturday, Chris

more stupidity...
a vendor actually promoting (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=537962) the use of an upside down head tube extender.
