That is one ugly repair. Looks like a badly set broken bone.

Man, I stared at the picture for the longest time trying to figure out why the carbon tube had unrolled the way it did with the big hole in it? Then i realized it was the bottle holder! Doh!

Just my Size!

As crazy as this sounds, for $300-$400 I could be tempted. The Seat tube bend scares me a little but I don't think I would have a problem with down tube repair.

I'm under the impression that down tubes pretty much only see tension (think slingshot bikes). I wonder if the crack was "down" or "around" the tube?

I wish he showed the seat stay crack.

I don't think it's worth it, even at $300.

They show up here for $1750 - $2xxx in very fine condition.

Why take a chance with a complete unknown?

Hrm,

If they broke it again they could make it smaller for me. But if they did that I'd be riding a bike that has some sort've skin infection... worse than boils.

A bike STD if you will.

this reminds me of my high school years. I used to surf and repair surfboard dings. They were always water-tight but some were not pretty.

Depending on a bikes design the downtube can be under tension or compression. On normal bike the downtube is the largest tube on the bike. This is because it is the main load bearing tube.

I am not a frame-builder, but I listened to Keith Bontrager a few times....

As any surfer will tell you, "that dude should have read the Ding Repair Scriptures!"

It would be interesting to get the serial number on this frame and trace its history. I wonder if it was stolen at one point...

This popped up for sale on ebay a couple of years ago with the same story....not sure if it ever sold back then.

That carbon tube is where the U lock went around :-)

"The repairs look fine"

Boy that is an "eye of the beholder" statement.

Maybe Serotta should buy it back to prevent the eventual lawsuit from the new owner who was "Just ridin' along..."

Somebody would take a chance because it's only $300 dollars. When you think about it the same logic applies to spending $2k on somebody else's custom boutique frame set where for twice the money one can be custom fitted for their own new.

If someone's willing to ride this as is then perhaps $300 is a good deal. I would not feel safe over 15 mph. To make it safe would cost a lot more than $300.

Given some of the bikes I've seen around here for $300, I think I'd buy any number of them at that price before spending more than $50 on that one.

Just one guy's opinion.

I hope that no one is tempted even by the low price. We had a Raleigh Supercourse with a broken lower stay. Just for grins I tried to repair it the same way this frame has been repaired. I wrapped the stay with cloth in larger and larger patches. It actually looked pretty good when I was done but I didnt have the stones to try it. We had a customer who really wanted to try it so we let him with a no guarantee/ no fault clause. I think he made it across the street before it snapped again. Of course the loads applied to a lower drive side stay and a down tube are different but even at $300 it isnt worth the possible outcome.

Doesn't the owner have POM crash protection?

No takers at $300. Maybe I'll offer him $100 shipped just for fun!
