It's a new American pursuit record, breaking his own record that he set in Copenhagen in February.
He'll go up against Jack Bobridge (another 19-year-old!) in the final.
"I've learned a lot in the last couple of months about the effect Lance can have on me in getting me to ride and getting me in shape. I don't want to let him down. I have a really good reason now, other than winning races, to want to train a lot -- to impress the king*" said Taylor Phinney.
"I'm sure we're going to get a lot of flak," Davis Phinney said. "Connie and I are just going to have to absorb that. Lance is my friend, and I believe in him. I've been around the guy quite a bit lately, and I think there's no better person to usher my son into the sport."
* = Another moment where we can thank Lance for supporting riders and the sport. :)

What's even more amazing to me, he took silver in the kilo, an event that shares very few riders with the pursuit.
And check out these split times: http://www.tissottiming.com/sports/cycling/track/cmt2009/Mens_1Km_Time_Trial_Final_Results.pdf. He had a very slow start, was 25th at 250m, 22nd at 500m, 10th at 750m, and then 2nd at 1000m!
