I just finished building up my new bike and road it around the block a few times!

I am super happy with how the components look on the bike. I was not sure about the black wheels, crank, and post, but I think they look really good!

The bike also built up pretty light, I need to get it on a more accurate scale, but the bathroom scale says 18 lbs. Not too bad for mostly Ultegra parts.

I still need to tweak the front derailleur a bit and then its ready for a real ride. My first impressions were a very solid/substantial ride with a muted bump/vibration response.

Tell me about it! I just got back from XC skiing, still a foot of snow on the trails near my work.

So the head tube/top tube/down tube junction is fillet brazed? The rest is lugged, or...? Just curious. Gorgeous bike! Jeff N.

I agree, looks fantastic.

I especially love the seat tube lug; the connection with the seat stays reminds me of my CSI junction. Absolutely lovely.

The frame-matching stripes on the painted fork were a smart artistic touch. They connect the fork to the frame as one statement. Someone was paying attention. Actually, those stripes on the fork legs remind me of the sleeves on a varsity sweater ;-)

I'll take off my beret now and stub out my Gauloise...

The top tube is 53.8, you were very close.

Not sure the paint color name, I sent Joe Bell a picture and said copy this color.

The frame is fillet brazed except for the seat tube collar at the top.

Thanks for all the nice compliments.

Nope, I am just a staker of Kelly Bedford :) and owner of kb002 and am on the list for a Touring KB bike which I hope to have by late summer.

Didn't we see that on one other K. Bedford? Orange, perhaps? It'd be neat if it turned out to be a signature touch -- something nobody else seems to have though of before, too, if such a thing is imaginable when it comes to bicycles!

Great looking bike! 2 beautiful Bedford's so far and both have F3 carbon forks. I don't get it, I would have thought a steel fork would complete the package.

The white one you all saw has the steel fork...Wonderful build and ride. Ride, like forks, are very personal and the customer can have either.

In fact, on the Orange Road one at the show, it had the capability to have steel if at a later time the customer (Mike at Cyclesport) wanted to change.

Kelly had a hand in the design process of the Serotta F3 fork, thinks its the cats meow and does not shy away from using carbone forks on his builds, having said that my Tourer for obvious reasons when he builds it will have his steel fork on it.
I personally think the carbone fork lines blend in well with a Fillet brazed frame. If this was a lugged bike I would have said otherwise. Nicely done bike by Chris and Kelly :)

To me, the reasons for a carbon fork on one bike, but not on a Tourer are not so obvious. Why is it the material OK on one bike, but not for a similar bike?

Not too many carbon forks offer eyelets for racks or fenders, if you want them.

Additionally is some brands of carbon forks, the rake and all that stuff is limited (you know better than I if that matters  )

My Bedford with Steel fork rides about the same as my CSI with an F2 fork.... (Could be because both were built by Kelly :D ). Neither have the eyelets for fenders or front rack. ALso the roads down here are smoother - but with our budget problems they are getting rougher everyday

There aren't many carbon forks that offer clearance for touring-width tires, either.

There's no reason that carbon fiber can't surround that stuff.
Your qualm has more to do with availability from a range of suppliers than materials.
No argument from here, just clarification.
You have to buy something that is available if you're in the market to buy.

Yes, that is stating the issue in a different way, don't forget the braze on's too. I guess the market is to small for this demand. Too bad

Just wanted to drop a line after getting a few good rides in on my new bike. It rides really nice, "quieter" than I am used to. Also, the fit is great. It is so much easier to ride in the drops for extended periods of time.

I really like the look of that frame. K Bedford has been building wonderful race frames for over 20 years. Some of my friends have raced his builds.
