The French are Picking on Armstrong

It looks like the French will stop at no means to find a reason for Armstrong not to compete in the TdF. If I understand this correctly, he is the only one to give a hair sample. If they administer this to him, then all rides need to go through the same treatment.

News of Armstrong’s test came as the ALFD published hair test results suggesting widespread use among French athletes of DHEA, a banned substance that can be used to boost testosterone levels.

The AFLD tested hair samples of 138 French soccer players, rugby players, track and field athletes and cyclists.

Twenty-two tests, or about 16 percent, showed signs of DHEA. Body builders have long used DHEA, but until now it was assumed to be limited among other athletes.

Bordry called the results “quite worrisome,” but said French athletes with “abnormal results” would not be sanctioned because this is the first time the AFLD has conducted hair tests.

“We hope that those who are taking these products stop taking them, because it’s very bad for their health,” he said. “It’s more important to tell them to stop taking them than to sanction the athletes.”

Above is from AP story. He is not the only one, apparently. Just because he is Lance doesn't mean he is being picked.

ever read every second counts? lance talks about how at any given point and time throughout any on or off season (i believe if it is incurred that one < in this case himself in particular> is to be competing in the tour the following season) a drug test can be administered and that it happened to him just as his wife's water broke and as they were out the door to go to the hospital so as she can deliver their twins. 7:00 a.m. and if he didn't do it even then, stop everything and give them a urine sample, he would'va been instantly disqualified.

they went through his trash and found needles from his cancer meds and word got out that he just must have been doping. bs. complete and utter.

something spectacuclar is gonna happen for sure but the overall win is open for levi, not lance. he'll have a few stage wins, a few "ten minutes forty one seconds at the bottom, thirty five seconds at the top." (~Phil Ligget) moments just because he can as he's the undisputed king of the tour, in and out of the frenchies rate of consciousness but the overall win is for lephiemer.

Perhaps it's fun to bash the French ... but I think the French and their riders have taken a very strong stance against doping and insofar as that is concerned, they should be commended.

If Lance is taking DHEA, I would like to know about it. If the test is negative, it is one more chance to show he is clean.

I agree to a certain extent that this is all kind of nutty ... but if you are clean, you are clean. Right? Should be no big deal.

I'm an agnostic on the doping issue, but given what an absolute disaster it would be were LA to test positive (at any point, but especially during the TdF), it may be best for all around if LA's testing regimen is the toughest. It may be the best insurance for LA that he gets to ride, though of course that assumes integrity at the lab. Why they wouldn't be doing the same to everyone with a chance to make top ten is not clear to me, but anyway, just wanted to say it's not completely obvious that what they're doing to LA is intended to keep him away.

where have you been? the hammer has been put to Lance first and foremost for a long time. granted it's because of what he has accomplished in his life and is still accomplishing. he wanted it, he worked for it, he earned it. no doping, no cheating whatsoever. wouldn't it be out if any form of evidence in the slightest bit be found that it would have been released? and never has there been a thing. and the testing unit held on to all samples of his for far longer than any one else and it still came back negative.
