....the difference between the "old" '08 alloy Centaur UT crankset and the newer '09 alloy Veloce UT crankset? I see that the '09 Centaur seems to have been changed to carbon....but the Veloce is also significantly less expensive than the old Centaur price. This would either suggest that there is maybe a difference?

Sorry if this has been asked...just trying to find a decent UT alloy crank. I like the Centaur but if I can get the same part by getting the new Veloce, I'm also happy to save a few bucks. I have a feeling that I'm missing something though.

Thanks -

The Centaur crank is still available in aluminum.

I have both... the apparent difference: less 'refined' chainrings. An ounce or two as well, probably.

There isn't a difference between 2009 Centaur Alloy UT crankset and 2008 Veloce Alloy UT crankset other then the name on the sticker.

For 2009 the Centaur crankset went to the Exa-Drive chainrings, so they are the same as the 2008 Silver Veloce UT crankset.

Keep in mind that for 2009 the Veloce UT crankset is only available in the infinite (black) color, so if you are looking for a silver alloy UT crankset you have to find a 2008 Veloce, or go Centaur.

OBTW - the pict in the Ribble link above is for a 2008 Centaur alloy crank. If you want to see the 2009 Centaur alloy crank look here:
