Like the title says i want to determine a year for these. They dont show up on any image searches i have done but maybe im looking in the wrong place.

Im not a collector so im bit clueless when it comes to these older bits. Im assuming it wasent made this millenium atleast

They look really sweet to me.

Late 80s/Early 90s vintage. That is what is known as the Monoplaner brake and was offered with the Chorus and I believe the Athena level groupsets.

Cheers,

Chorus. Introduced in 1987.

It moved downstream over time. I have a very nice pair, some Ti hardware even (I *think*) that are Veloce. BTW, it looks like the brake pads might be on the wrong sides. Worst case scenario, the pads can slide out under braking force if they are...

These went to Athena as well. They are referred to as monoplanar brakes, and are my favorites to look at. Beautifully sculptured, made until the early 90s IIRC.

If your group is Chorus, then the latest the brakes should be is 1994-5, since Record dual-pivots came out in late 93. I'd imagine Chorus followed with dual-pivots in 1995.

Your component group may be Chorus, but your brakes are Athena.

Ah there we go.

I would have said group look like perhaps 95. But would have guessed that brakes were 85 if i saw them alone, they really have that old well made costly feel about them.

thx again

I did at one time have a pair of those brakes (athena). They were great looking brakes but their stopping power isn't so great compared to modern brakes.

I agree im not impressed with stoping power. But for me i think its mainly dry pads and old wires and some tuning required. But im not expecting them to perform like a modern record brake.

On certain bikes i can live with less function for some eye candy.

i had those brakes on my "basso loto" in the late 80's and they were not very good brakes. the dura ace single-pivot brakes were signifigantly better.i still have a set in a box. in that era of cycling, campagnolo was not very impressive. i am not sure when the "wake-up call" came, but when campy came out 10-spd, it seemed that they finally "came back".
