Bikes On Rj's

With the airlines using more of the smaller jets (RJ'S) does any one know if you can take your bike on the plane, a CRJ 100 operated by American Southeast Airline to be exact. Oh it will be in the luggage compartment not in the seat next to me. I will be packing it in Iron Case by Trico. Thanks RFF

Your bicycle will likely reach the same destination...the question is whether it'll be on the same flight! :crap:

Hopefully Saab2000 will see this thread and chime-in with how oversized items are transported with smaller jetliners.
One could envision how it could become problematic (for example) if many riders simultaneously sought to attend the same organized event.

I've flown with my bike (in a Trico case) on CRJs, ERJs, and Dash-8s. You run the risk of it being left behind if there's lots of luggage, but so far my bike has always arrived with me. Just be ready to fork over $$$ at the check in counter - the bike fees have gone up and they don't overlook them anymore.

The bike fees are up for sure. The last time I flew with my bike I got the surpise from Air France who has never before charge for my bike. Delta on the other hand has all but once. It continues to amaze me when I show up at the counter with my bike they seem confused on how to charge for it. The counter agent has get on the phone ask for the code. This happens even though I leave from CVG one of Delta's hubs.

$50 each way plus 2 free checked bags.

I flew back from LA with 3 checked bags, Trico bike case, backpack and small athletic bag for $75 so try to fly on Southwest if you can.

I could have paid $150-200 on other airlines.

The business models they use @ Southwest seem to work and they are one of the few airlines in the black. I wonder why more airlines do not try to copy some of their practices. I would try Southwest on this trip except they as of yet do not fly to Europe.
