What are some good skewers to replace the Velomax skewers that came with my Tempest wheelset.

The wheels are nice but these skewers suck! They don't have a real positive feel to them when they lock.

I like an eccentric, sure, positive feel when it's just the right tightness and then the lever pops over and you know it's going to stay.

Suggestions?

I went to the Campy Record skewer for my Orions II. DAs are also quite fine. (Too much has already been said of my sad tale about Velomax skewers.)

Any Campy and Dura-Ace, some Mavic. Sheldon Brown has an article on other designs not holding well.

Bold Precision. Light and durable.

Really long ones that allow me to adhere a lot of turkey or chicken kabobs.

Oops, you mean bicycle skewers. I know the answer to that one also- Dura-Ace.

Zipp Qr's are great. The Shimano's are also as good, if not better.

Salsa rasta, before the logo was printed on the handle. Have a pair just waiting for the appropriate bike.

So just what is an appropriate bicycle for you?? A tricycle with two sets of trainer wheels and a seat belt?? :) :)

In this order: DAs, Flip Offs, Mavic, Flip Offs, Flip Offs, Flip Offs.

I used to like Cook Bros. Dog Bones, but I think they're extinct now. Jeff N.

Campagnolo Chorus and Record skewers. Just to give you some perspective, my buddy Keno's rear Velomax wheel was rotating in the drop outs under moderate torque, but switching out the skewer to a Campagnolo Record skewer fixed the problem instantly! IMHO, Campagnolo skewers can not be beat for strength, durability and beauty.

Sorry to bring back some bad memories for you there, keno.

American Classic skewers.....I hate them!
Have a set that came with a new hubset. Love the hubs, hate the quick release skewers. They may hold the wheels fine, don't know, haven't had a chance to ride them much, but opening and closing them is a painful and frustrating procedure....

Salsa has always gotten the job done well for me.

Second the Zipps. Like them better than Campy , Odds and Endos, Salsa. They have a very positive feel , look good, and are light.

DA's period.

Never ever had them work loose when I was laying down the POW-WAR! ;)
