Anyone know much about the Basso Ascot? I know Colorado Cyclist was selling them from their catalog some years ago, but not in a long time. It was touted as a bike with Columbus "MS" tubing, i.e., lugged steel, multishaped, as in ovalized downtube at the bottom bracket, etc. It had a wild celeste green/neon orange color combination.

If memory serves me right, they were Italian-made.

I have one. Good steel bike from back in the day. The geometry really works for me, but it is a bit abnormal with the really short head tube.

Here's a thread with a photo...

Yeah, in their first or second year of catalog, they had the Ascot. Must have been 1989 or 1990 as those were the years MS was popular and Basso, yes Italian, were making the Ascot.

As far as I know, only 3 color combos and I have seen one in solid blue. Of the combo's there was green and orange, yellow and purple and white and orange. I own two. Each of the three main tubes as well as the chain stays were shaped differently and in theory, optimized for that location.

The BB in all of the MS frames I've seen is an investment cast Cinelli.

I also have a Basso Astra made from ELOS.
