Anyone ever used an IRD Campy compatible cassette? They offer some good combos that Campy just doesn't offer like 11-28 and 12-28. I hesitate to put down the money because I know nothing about them. Here is soeone who is selling them on eBay (no relation to seller, of course).

i purchased an ird 12-28 cassette and it doesn't shift as well as my campy cassettes. when i mix
a 13-29 with a 12-25 and end up with a 12,13,14,15, 17, 19, 21 , 23, 26, 29, the shift is slow between the 15 and 17, but really no worse than the ird.
sincerely, don c.

A short cage campy 10 speed RD is rated to a 26T cassette. You can run a 12-28 but you better engage your brain to make sure you don't try to shift into a big-big combination. 2009 Centaur cassettes are relatively cheap and you wouldn't question the quality.

I've purchased two IRD cassettes from the EBay seller, both Shimano however. On my Shimano equipped bikes the IRD cassettes run and shift well.

One thing to do is check and make sure that they are compatible with your wheels. Some Shimano-compatible wheels dont have the room for the wider spacing of Campy cassettes.

Same results with my IRD cassette on Shimano...and an 11-28 is super for me in the hills-riding that I so love! I run DA stuff on three different bikes and have IRD on just one...it's not an issue to me on any level and will replace the other DA's with IRD if I feel like I need/want a combination of gears that Shimano doesn't offer.

That's a combination I may want to try on one bike.

It also depends on what you goal is with the IRD. Still has steel cogs so super light weight isn't there. Price is higher than Veloce at full retail.

I've gone to using only Veloce which shifts the same as Chorus or Record. All individual cogs and spacers so you can create a custom cassette easily.

Check out the $36/cassette at probikekit.com:

No stock right now but they get shipments every few weeks it seems. You can buy 3 of them for the price of one in the US.

+1.

Veloce at $36 is a steal.

Many thanks for the feedback. I think I'll try the Veloce 13-29 and maybe try to fit it with an 11 or 12. PBK has a great price on them. I hope when it comes back into stock it will be similar.

....50-34 compact cranks....I can almost climb a 90 degree vertical wall with the 36-28 and not much chance of an old man like me spinning out the 50-11 either! This is what I have on my CSi and what I'll put on my Ottrott when the 12-27 DA bites the dust sometime later this spring. Smooth enough for me and I really like the range!....a lot!!!

FWIW... I have a 12/28 that I have been riding for a while without any issues whatsoever.

I mated it with a 50/38 and it has been a great combo.

Veloce at $36 is a steal.

For an ounce or two on non race wheels who cares-been running Veloce and it sure lasts longer than Record...
