Looks like a few 27mm Vittorias, but lots of black tires, too.

Any idea what the Pros were running?

Eroica is one of the most beautiful races of the year with some unique conditions. Yet, it doesn't seem that anyone from the media except Graham Watson bothered to show up.

As of this morning, only Pez has inquired about the gear used (in an interview with Maskaant (http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fullstory&id=6843&status=True&catname=Latest%20News) - Slipstream was on 24mm Vittorias, by the way).

The entire cycling media will cover the latest American designed/Taiwanese manufactured frame ad nauseam. I guarantee that not a single one of those frames will enable me to do something on a bike I couldn't do before, or answer any nagging questions I have.

One nagging question I do have is: What kind of tires can I cram in a standard road bike to ride down a dirt/gravel road and go fast in the process? Eroica seems to be a lab for answering that question. It's a real question of gear - one where lots of cyclists care about the answer and might be able to do something new because of it - but nobody in the media cares to go there and ask.

Cudos to Pez for at least picking up the telephone to ask the question. More people should ask interesting questions for which people care about the answers.
