The show bike located in Carl Strong's booth has this headset. He indicated that he was not sure if it increased performance but it does not hurt performance. I think he feels that it is a design alternative if you prefer that look.

So would the lower upper and lower stack heights need to be factored into the design of a custom frame to get the right geometry fit for the rider? A longer head tube?

It seems like a traditional headset but with lower stack height - 20mm instead of the normal CK 35mm.

Whatever is said about it, I like it. It's clean, simple and everything CK stands for.

What I can't figure out is why CK is painstakingly slow with the obvious. First the Shimano-style BB cups that are 5 years late, now the semi-integrated threadless headset that virtually every other big name frame on the market has sported for about the same number of years. Anyone?

I'm getting one for my Scott Addict though, since Ritchey WCS is too plain these days. ;)

All this amounts to is King making an internal headset to an existing standard diameter for "low profile" press fit internal headsets.

Of course a frame has to be designed around this headset. The head tube length would be longer since it's hidden inside the head tube.
