Do I put lubricant on any part of this?

Thanks

Yes.

Glop it on the outside of the boss itself, and on the bolt that holds the shifter to the boss. With that nylon insert, glopping it on the boss is probably not necessary, but I still do it.

KN,

I am intrigued by the color/design scheme of your old steel EL/OS. Did it say anywhere "Varnished by Dossena Carlo"?

Who is the framebuilder of your frame?

thanks,
weisan

Weisan; no varnish, not even really special I don't think - it's a Fondriest. I just finished building it up with used and NOS Campy Record from ebay (except new wheels - Mavic Open Pro/Record). I was worried about the DT shifters with 10 speed, but it works perfectly! In fact, I was amazed how effortless it was. It's been about ten years since I had a DT shifting bike, and I seem to remember more fiddling to get each gear dialed in. There were only about three times on today's hilly 22 mile ride that I had to reach back down to fine tune!

My most ridden bike is a Concours CS with 2003 Record 10 Ergos, and I'm amazed how much I like this Fondriest. Whoever described the ride of EL/OS as beautiful, fluid and supple, I now agree.

Kines, how about a pic of that sweet bike?? I'm sure most forum members will like to see a nice EL/OS bike.... :D

Bubba:
yeah, I thought about that, so I lubricated nothing, and it works flawlessly.

The paint job, although of very high quality is a little fruity - sort of a "love it or hate it" kinda thing. It's certainly nothing I would have been attracted to if buying new; I'm more in to subtleness. I call this scheme "Disco in the Me Decade". Decide for yourself, but it has grown on me to the point of actually liking it. Also, it looks entirely different in person, and from different angles (so deep it's almost prismatic), and in different light. And it really doesn't matter to me anyway, nearly as much as the ride quality. Besides - it's certainly way better than a solid red frame - the worst possible paint scheme on a bike. Oops - did I just start something?
