Are there any out there that don't suck?

I finally let me subscription to "Bicycling" ("Buycyling]"??) lapse cuz even though it was really inexpensive, the issues were cluttering the house...

I tried to subscribe to "Cycle Sport" via the World Cycling Productions website, but I never received a confirmation that I was successful, and they have ignored about a half dozen emails (to two different email addresses I found), so I am finally giving up on them. Thankfully, my credit card has not been charged...although I am a bit nervous about this in case they actually find that I subscribed.

About a year ago I signed up for "Asphalt" and my story is pretty much the same as everyone else...two issues in the past year...waiting patiently for more, but not optimistic.

So the question is, what other mags are out there that you all like and contain at the least some minimal content that is not rehashed every couple years?

Thanks.

had in their newstand a new rag called Roadie ( I think it was mentioned here just a short while ago), brand new, still has to work out its kinks, but might eventually be worthy of consideration. I think it's a spin off from a MTBing mag.

The Brit's fold the corner currently.

Ozz,

There was a post on Classic Rendezvous which stated that Asphalt

Bicisport
Learn Italian and subscribe using your credit card. It's an awesome magazine, really technical and with great pictures. I remmember one issue that dedicated 3 pages to which Italian greats used right handed or left handed front brake set-ups.

My wife bought for me their 2005 calander. They portray it as having pictures "of the peloton", I was hoping for some picture's of the countryside with the peloton included, as that is what is on their cover in their cat. What I received was a calander full of <closeups> of this past years racerboys. With all due respect to these fine athletes, the last thing I want hanging on my office wall is closeups of lycra clad men.

I sent WCP two emails asking for exchange information, with no response to date, that last email sent last Tuesday. I guess I have 'ta call.

Ozz - if you do not want the subscription you may want to call them to make sure it does not go through. I would think someday they will look at their email.

Ozz;

We have a nice little magazine called The Ride in this part of the country but it's focus is on "Eastcoast Bike Culture".

There is lot's of stuff about East Coast racers, East coast races, some historical and euro stuff, and some product and travel reviews. It is not focused solely on road either.

I subscribe and generally enjoy it.

They have a website but the magazine might not have much interest to you given your geographic location.

www.ridemedia.com.au

Ride magazine from Australia. It's a quarterly and is the best english language magazine! Chicagoland used to sell it. Fairly easy to get a sub for it sorted out. I have every issue since it was launched in 1999 and it is leagues better than anything else out there.

"Asphalt" was waiting for me in the mailbox when I came home today!

Good news for all of us with subscriptions....has a nice little piece about cycling in the Basque country...it's a little dated as it refers to Tyler having his collarbone taped up!

Also articles on Parlee, Hampsten, Somec and Felt bikes....

Thanks for all your input...still looking for a monthly subscription...

But, I can't ride all the time...need to sleep too, and having a nice read about cycling before bedtime gives me nice dreams :D !

Adventure Cycling has a tourist/adventure cycling (get it!) magazine that some might like. It does not focus on high end racing bikes, however it has the occasional intersting article on self-supported cycling in off-the-beaten track locals.

and some white-out.
anytime you read CAT _ white it out, let dry
and then write BICYCLE in its place.

(this is whats good about the world)

I can't believe CyclePorn..er.CycleSport is blowing you off. I renew every 2 years and they are always sending me reminders to renew even when I have over a year left paid.

CycleSport is so far above anything else I've read in print. First you have the photos. Spectacular! The photos are worth the price alone. Some of the articles are dated by the time I get the mag but most of it is good. They always review some past star from decades ago and give the latest updates on the pro scene. What's not to love? It's about 160 pages of bike stuff!

I've been a regular subscriber since about '96. I'll just keep paying them as long as they'll send it.

I've never read any other cycling mag that remotely interests me.

. . . between ill-advised subscription deals and Borders cafe, Ive seen a few . . .

BICYCLING . . . They went all too slicko earlier this year when I believe they acquired the art director from Men’s Health across the hall at Rodale. The quantity of copy fell waaaay low but then began to come back the last few months. At first it looked like it would just about take a coach class flight to Chicago to read all the way through--now it looks like it would last at least until Denver. Of course, what should arrive this month in my mailbox but the SEX ISSUE, so I retract everything good I just said. The way my social life is going right now, the last thing I need to read is a Marla Streb’s heart rate graph from her latest nasty ddncing session with hubby . . .

CYCLING PLUS . . . Best, fairest equipment reviews you can find. The bike tests are exhaustive, too. Great magazine.

Cycle Sport . . . Beautiful magazine. Wonderful stories on pros of today and yesteryear. Huge and full of good reading.

RIDE (Australia) . . . I’ve only seen one issue, but it was friggin’ GORGEOUS!

ProCycling . . . Almost as good as Cycle Sport. Really nice bike reviews from Chris Boardman.

VeloNews . . . Best domestic race coverage you’re going to find, though that’s not necessarily saying much.

BIKE . . . Great stories about riding MTB, not just the latest drool fest equipment rag. I just wish it was more pages and more of that great reading every month.

MBA . . . Condemned by some as industry pandering crap, but very good on practical advice on MTB’ing and equipment.

Roadie . . . Brand new from the publishers of Mountain Biking--and it reads like it. Endless glowing evaluations of equipment--followed by large ads for those same manufacturers several pages later. Totally blatant editorial content for sale . . . just like Mountain Biking.

I subscribe to Bicycling and Cycle Sport. I love Cycle Sport as soon as a get an issue I will thumb through to look at the beautiful pictures then I will read a few articles that interset me. As far as Bicycling it is a genaral bike magazine most of the stuff is filler but now and then there are good reads!
