Thanks for the input, uh... sir. As can be seen in the last photo, I eventually put the square holed washer in the correct orientation. Does anyone know why the bolt turns when I move the lever, and what needs to be done to correct it?

Thanks
KN

The flat plastic washer goes on the inside of the lever, and the convex plastic washer goes on the outside with the curved part facing in. Just make sure that the flat sections in the cutout of the convex washer line up with the flat sections of the frame boss.

Ah - that makes sense! Damn my feeble brain for not being able to come up with that! Too bad I have to wait another 12 hours to get home and try it out. Thanks, Shock.

And now I can see why the stop tab didn't fit against the lever correctly - if you transpose the lever to the other side where it belongs, as can be seen in the last photo, there's a notch that fits against the stop tab. Damn my feeble brain.
