Howdy folks.

I was trying to get some 9S Campy down tube shifters but instead got a pair of what I think are the late model 8S shifters, the ones with 3 g springs. I gather they can be updated to 9S if I can get the correct toothed cog, but I suspect that little bugger is hard to come by now. I got to thinking, and it seems to me that if I can't get the parts, all I need to do to use the shifters is get a loose cog 9S cassette and some 8S spacers and Bob's my uncle. The derailleurs don't care, the 9S cogs will work on the wheels I have and the 9S chain would also be fine. Am I missing anything?

Thanks, Doug

Doug,

Branford Bike has the 9-spd index ring here (http://branfordbike.com/itemdetails.cfm?id=721)

Funny, but I just posted that same link over in my classified WTB ad. I sure hope the ones I got are the later version...

Late late follow up question: I can make them into 10S as well? That might be fun, or just buy both the 9 and 10S gear so I'll be covered for 8-10 rear cogs...

Thanks, Doug

Yes. 3 spring levers wil take 8,9 and 10 speed index ring. I got my last 10sp ring from Vecchio's in Colorado.

the convertible ones are curved & have a cable tension adjuster on the lever, fyi. they will take 8/9/10 rings, as has been stated.

Almost all. I have a curved, with tension adjuster pair that has only 2 G springs. It is never simple with Campy.
