1) How do I figure out if a LH shifter is double or triple? I looked for a part # with no luck. I assume one can figure out by how it shifts and counting clicks, but I don't know them well enough to tell.
2) Will a triple shifter work for a double crank? (I assume there is no way a double shifter would work with a triple crank.)
TIA
Louis
Louis, triple can work on a double crank. I have Ultegra triple-capable shifters on my tandem and it's fine. Don't really know if they are all the same though.
I would think an easy way to tell is to measure the amount of cable pull across the entire range of the shifter.

I think 9spd, 105 and Ultegra shifters can shift double or triple but DA is either dbl or trpl specific.
I don't know about 10speed stuff.

Thanks guys. I have Ultegra 9-spd so it sounds like I'm all set.

Ken Robb is correct, even though he's old. 6500 series Ultegra shifters shift both double and triple.

According to 2004 catalog, they list only model ST-6510 for Dual Control Lever and is listed for both double or triple.
