. . . where they are pushing it--hard. It doesn't do a thing for me and it's very obvious--to me, at least--that if anyone else were writing or performing this song that it would never see air time. It's getting played only because it's Springsteen. He sounds like he's drunk.
I've always found Springsteen very inconsistent. Some of his stuff just really blows me away. Then the next song does absolutely nothing for me.

I agree 100% "darkness on the edge of town" one of the very best. What I have heard of this one sound contrived and thin. Seemed a bit strange putting out this record right on the heels of the one this summer. Maybe he was invested with Bernie Madoff?

You say that like its a BAD thing? Neil Young sounded drunk and WAS drunk when he recorded Tonight's the Night and its still one of the great albums ever. Assuming you like Neil Young to begin with.
I haven't heard the new Bruce, but he's one of those guys who I can find lots to like about even his most marginal stuff. Some songs/albums are definitely better than others, but I usually find plenty of good moments in even his weakest albums.

I wonder if Bruce Springsteen rides bicycles similar to musicians like Bobby Weir of the Grateful Dead?
It was cool how he penned a tribute to KISS in that first song by putting his lyrics to their classic old KISS tune.
