Help, does any one know how to adjust the reach on the shifter leavers? It's not in any instructions I can find? Shamino says the reach is adjustable for small hands. Thanks much. JohnnyG

Shimano's website is usually very good about giving all kinds of technical information. I bet if you did a little poking around you will find everything you need to know about Dura Ace 7900 and maybe even a bit more.

Good Luck!

You have to take off the faceplate, first off. Then there's an adjustment screw that you loosen, but not the point of it coming out. The more screw exposed, the more the lever will be canted in.

This is a really simple thing to do; I consider myself to be a mechanical idiot and I did it. If you squeeze either lever, you will see a small phillips screw on the top of the face plate. Remove that screw and pop the face plate up and off. Now, look at the lever from the front; there is small hole, that if you look inside with good light you will see a flat-tip screw top. Dialing that screw in, clockwise, will move the levers in towards the bar. If you look at the top of the mechanism you will see this screw moving in towards a flat stop, sort of similar to a front derailleur stop screw. Get the levers where you want them, replace the face plate and you are done.

MUCH easier than Red..

Yes, I do have 7900; I have only been able to get in a few rides due to the weather though. Initial impressions are that the hood shape is the biggest difference. Front der. shifting is a little better but otherwise no real wow's IMHO. That said, I really like 7800 to begin with. Hopefully as the weather gets better I will be able to form more of an opinion.. Overall, I would say a great grouppo got a little better. Given the great deals on 7800 I don't think the price difference is there.

The phillips-head screw doesn't have to be removed completely. Shimano made it a point to make sure that the screw in question did not have to be removed, actually, simply because they didn't want the consumer to have another screw to potentially lose.

Thanks everyone. Even I could do it after your instructions. I am liking the 7900 also. The hood shape is much more comfortable for me and the rear shifting is seem much faster. Probable not worth the upgrade considering the prices of the 7800 currently. JohnnyG
