I don't think too many folks will be commuting by bike in Fairbanks on Friday...
I complain about the weather in St Louis, but to me -40* is unfathomable.

When it reaches 5* Fahrenheit my crew is simply playing connect-the-coffeeshops for our morning rides.
I can't envision that -40* Fahrenheit stuff. Wow.

It's not the heat, it's the humidity.

It's not the cold, it's the wind chill.

That's Fairbanks for you....it can also get up to 100 in the summer there! It was a challenge to ride in the winter when I lived in Kodiak, and it wasn't just becuase there was only 7 miles of paved road between town and base... :)

It's not the wind chill, it's the aliens frozen in the ice.

I complain about the weather in St Louis, but to me -40* is unfathomable.I designed and built a few large food product freezers that operated down to -40F and with lots of air movement. And yes, it’s hard to take if you have any exposed skin. Even with a full freezer suit staying inside for more than a few minutes becomes very uncomfortable.
There is no way I could have ridden a bike with all that gear -- the thickness of the gloves alone would make controlling a bike too difficult for me.
