I have an older model fluid model with adjustable resistance from Performance. It's similar to the one at this link:
http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=24535&subcategory_ID=4120
But mine does not have the dual mag/fluid resistance.
Mine has the fluid only adjustable unit like the one found on this rear axle trainer found on this link:
http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=6000123&subcategory=60001087&brand=&sku=18859&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%20Trainers%20and%20 Rollers
My full frame trainer / fluid unit probably has about 9,000 miles on it with no problems. The unit has 5 resistance settings and they all still work. The only real issue so far is that the contact roller is aluminum (I think) and it is showing some grooving/wear from the rear tire. Tension on the rear wheel is provided by a big spring that can be locked out, when the unit is not in use.
I think I paid ~$300 about 6 years ago. It sat in my basement for 3 years before I really got back in the cycling groove in 2006.
For the money, it's been a good investment. LOTS better than the old mag unit that I had used before which wore out in about 3 off-seasons.
