View Full Version : OT iTunes & Laptop Question
A friend gave me a Sony Vaio that he replaced with something better. He used the laptop for his iPod. The Vaio runs XP Pro. I would like to wipe it clean of the iTune and iPod data on there so that I can download iTunes anew and have my device the only one recognized rather than his with mine as a poor relation.
I'll appreciate any guidance.

There is no need to wipe anything.
Besides you might find some good stuff in his library. Although keeping it would be obviously illegal. I won't tell.
I don't think that his material would download to my iPod as it doesn't have the identifier for the correct device. I'm a novice with the iPod technology so I wouldn't be the ranch on my notion. Happy to be wrong.

Try SharePod, a free program.
http://www.getsharepod.com/
Have your buddy deauthorize your computer, then uninstall and reinstall itunes and erase all of his music files. He can either deauthorize all computers on his account from his current computer or you will have to have him type in his password on yours.

Umm,
but if, for instance, he bought a new ipod.... That would be the same position you are in now.
Why not just try hooking your ipod up and see what happens? If it does not work go with Rex's plan.
For a real in depth answer you could ask at macrumours.com
I think the difference is that I don't have his ID/password for his iTunes, so I can't (I don't think but happy to be wrong) get to his purchased songs. I could ask him for the info, but right now his life ain't what it used to be and I don't want him to feel his losing something else. No doubt he would give it to me, but I'm concerned about him.

I tried the program zmudshark suggested and it worked without a hitch. I don't know what would have happened had I not used the program and I ain't gonna find out.
Thanks, zmudshark.
