I don't actually own any Ti bikes, but several years back when I was first getting into "serious" cycling I had the opportunity to test ride a Merlin Extralight with full DuraAce and Ksyrium SL wheels, and there was something about that brief experience that was so wonderful I haven't been able to escape the memory

(plus every time I see a Vamoots SL I get a major boner)

so yeah, I'm a vicarious member of the Ti Lover's Club!

Well, my Ibis Sonoma Ti is -- lately at least -- my main ride.

Then I have, yet to build up, a year 2000 (or 1999) Schwinn Paramount Ti, built by Serotta. (Comparable to which Serotta model???)

Dave, who wonders if anyone rides a ti frame with a steel fork

AFAIK. the Ti Schwinn wasn't equivalent to any Serotta, it was built by Serotta to Schwinn specifications. Maybe a Concours could be considered a close match.

Concourses are the Atlanta of the Serotta ti line.

Was playing around with the paint thing for mine. It might need a new look come spring:

60cm, circa mid-to-late 90's. This is a great, smooth-riding bike. Not wicked stiff - not a bike that makes you ride super-aggressively, but one for getting in the miles in comfort, one for flying over crappy roads at full bore, one to ride all winter without worrying about paint chipping, one for centuries. I rode a Look carbon and Fondriest aluminum more in the summer, but this is the bike I ride in the shoulders of the cycling season.

Wish I could find a 60cm Legend for comparison. This frame has a 1 inch steerer - it would be interesting to try a ti frame with a 1-1/8 inch steerer to see how much stiffer the front end is.

I doubt I will ever sell this bike.

Agree 100% with your description of Merckx Ti. The cranks also seem to turn easier on my Majestic, don't know if it's the frame or the Phil bottom bracket.

Forget the bikes that are ti/carbon. They don't count. (Except carbon forks and steerers are OK.)

Nice job. Either you built a lot of wheels or your wheels are damn expensive.

Indeed, during my time in medical school, I was building between 10-15 sets per month x 2 years, and they were mid to upper end wheels ($400-800/set).

How do you like your kangaroo? (Quintana Roo just seems like an odd name)

QR is an odd name. They are owned by ABG and the Ti frames are made in the Litespeed factory. Nice welds and has the Real Design aero fork which rides pretty smoothly. Not the stiffest bike in the world, but I am not a big guy. Much less road buzz than a prior aluminum TT/tri bike that I had.

Best thing is the deal I got on it. Bought it used f/f/hs for $500.

first (and only) Ti bike is a '98 Schwinn Paramount. The frame was the evaluation model provided to Schwinn by Serotta for the '99 production run.

F1 fork, Ultegra 10, Mavic OP, Chris King, Thomson. Nothing flashy (well, maybe the paint ), just a nice, dependable ride.
