Hello: I have read a few posts on workstands and am going to order one very soon. Generally, people seem very impressed with teh Park PRS20 (Trek-Disco) model, but does anyone have other suggestions or ones of a similar design?

In particular, does anyone know about the Tacx Spider or the Elite Spindoctor model? I ask because the Tacx one (in particular) is being cleared out in a few places very cheaply, whereas the Park stuff never gets blown out.

Maybe I should just stick with Park, but in case the Tacx was 98% as good as 50% the price, I would make that choice!

Your quick replies are appreciated!!

Thanks again . . .

I have the Park stand. I like the ability to mount a bike in either direction without clamping a painted surface. It folds up nice if I travel with it. It is heavy, they make a lighter model but I like the heft for stability.

The only downside is mounting a bike with fenders. I can clamp the fork with a planet bike fender, but the rubber piece has to be folded back. My old fenders were SKS with break-away so they were easier.

I've found that buying Park Tools gear across the board has been one of the best cycling investments I have ever made...It is expensive, but it is well engineered and well crafted.

I do own one of their bike stands as well, its good stuff!

Good luck,

Steve

I'm using the Park PCS10 and it's working great. The thing I found is that once you have a nice stand you'll never be able to live without one again.

Add me too to the Ultimate endorsement - great stand and easily portable. Mine came with a carrying case, and sets up anywhere very easily.

I also have a Park. The Park PCS-4. It is for home use only, no traveling.
It was more expensive then my original Spin Doctor but as noted above once I had a good one I didn't want to go back to the Spin Doctor. Also, I think I'm doing more of my own work on my bikes instead of paying someone else to do it. I do know my bikes(3) are better maintained because of my owning the Park Stand.

Any stand can be clamped without touching a painted surface...

er at least the ones without special ISP deals...

I have the PRS-4 and PCS-15 from Park. They're both great and all of the parts for the stand are replaceable...

The bit of extra quality from their stuff is just worth it for me. After having lots of cheaper tools that wind up not fitting just right or wearing out (then rounding out your parts) I won't have anything else but Park again.

aside from the Park stand I own, I recently bought ($15) this little number from Velo Orange to address those quick-down-and-dirty repairs, such as lubing the chain:
