I'm going to be in DC visiting Smiley this next weekend and around town on Monday. Smiley's got to work . . . Anyone interested in a ride Monday to keep a poor visiting cyclist from riding alone and getting sucked into the Beltway Vortex?

Dave:

Normally a ride on a Monday would be a great reason to take a day off from work. However, I will unluckily be in St Kitts for the week. ;)

dave, will your trip south be known as "the flight of the bumblebee"?

Monday after 1:30pm works for me. You can leave :) house at one and arrive at my place by then.

. . . Andre I think 1:30 would work well. Now this "beltway" thing . . . That's a bike trail, right? We can ride on that?

There is an inner loop and an outer loop. It is very important to be in the right loop so that you are going in the same direction as the rest of the traffic. Neither one moves very fast during rush hour.

Several years ago I knew a grad student from Norway who was doing a post-doc at the U of MD. He'd just got a new bike that spring, and was riding around. Got stuck in the right lane - which was an entrance ramp to the DC beltway. He said he'd made it about a mile or so before a trooper stopped and picked him up. No charges or anything - just help to get back to a more bike-friendly route.

BB Dave, I will send a note to Bumperjohn too as I maybe open to riding if I can't get good miles in this weekend. Do not fear Zap is 5 miles from my house .

Dave, if you want to head downtown near the mall, I bet a few of us could scare up some free time at lunch to meet at Haines Point.
