The German ww stuff as well (Schmolke bars, AX Lightness, Speedneedle, usw.)

Dare I say smokin?

The 11 speed stuff shifts as good and maybe a little better than the 10 speed stuff does. Crisp, fast and to the point. DaveS had no issues shihting with the 10 speed rings and I had no problem with the Extralite rings.

Jack, What do think of the ride of the 595 compared to some of the other carbon bikes you have had?

I'll be covering this question in the very near future on my blog(Ultraendure.com) but the 595 is one of the top production frames made today.

I was going to suggest removing the valve stem caps, but there are already deleted to save weight! I think one less wrap of black electrical bar tape and we can save .00000000009 grams.

The Schmolke bars appear to be very stiff. Along with the Extralite stem the front end of the rig is one of the nicest I've ridden.

Jack, delete the heavy crimp-on cable ends! I have a killer solder gun from Radio Shack you can use instead.

Vipman,
You are correct on the cable ends. It will be fixed.

There is some serious engineering behind that build.

Holy smokes that is light looking! I recommend fasting before going for a ride and only filling the bottles half way to minimize weight. As a last resort, leave potato salad in the sun and eat it a few days later - this will bring the weight down even further

Seriously, a really nice bike.

Jack has it right. The solder is way heavier than the Al end cap :p

Nice stuff Jack. Enjoy the ride.

Thanks.
It's light but doesn't feel light if you know what I mean. Tomorrow it's going to have a 50 mile Mexican ride with some Chorizo and eggs about half way through the ride(Santa Paula, Ca). It also includes fresh made by your table either corn or flour tortillas.

But when you solder you don't have a frayed end when you have to pull the cable for cleaning or adjustment. Therefore you can cut the cable shorter in the first place so you have 3mm less cable. Overall I'm sure it is a wash. ;)

They feel ok. The angles of the shifters and thumb shift buttons are really nice. Material is grippy even when wet with sweat. Jury is still out though on the height of the hoods.

Amazing! I have a 595 frame which I still haven't built up. Now you've got me all excited!

Jack,

That is one over-the-top rig (among many in your collection)!

I like your observation about the feel of the 595--I have had the same reaction. The frame feels rock solid, as if it weighs more than it does. Re the wheels, I swapped wheels on a ride with a friend who has Lightweights (wasn't riding the 595, though), and they gave the same impression--they felt super stable, like a heavier wheel (vs. the 303's that I was riding, but that's not a fair comparison). The combination of the 595 and the Lightweights must be amazing. I have Cosmic Carbone Pro's on my 595, and they are great wheels. The Lightweights have a similar, confident feel, but are 2 lbs. lighter...

Brunk, you are such a whore. Ironic that it says LOOK on the seat tube. It might just as well say LUST .

That spare is under the saddle just to give the bike enough weight to keep the thing from floating away, right?

Another nice build!

Thanks for posting your rides. It's always great to see the different component mixes and how they look on a real bike. Very nice.

Jack,

Is it just me or do you not have as much saddle to bar drop on this bike as some of your others? Also, do you plan on taking out some spacers? Is that a medium?

I have a 595 from 2007 (with the white Team paint scheme) that one day I will finsih the build and cut the seatmast...Just not ready for that much commitment as yet.

Beautiful bike and maybe it will inspire me to finsih mine.

Thanks for sharing!

I like steel frames, but I saw an orange Look 585 in an ad that made me want carbon. It was a great color. There is one on eBay right now but it is too small.

Just built this up and tried some new stuff.

That is very nice,

It is hard to imagine, looking at that, why I was accused this week of being second only to you ...............................

I am not even in the same league.

Not even close.

Now ride the you-know-what out of it and give us a report on how it all works. I've seen write-ups of all carbon brakes and wondered how they work--or IF they work!

Cool stuff.

However, panache dictum requires the tire be rolled super tight and hidden in the middle pocket. Since flats rarely happen among riders with panache, get the narrowest tubular tire you can find.

Hey, have fun.

Looks scorching. I'd never seen that saddle before, it looks like it ought to be comfy with an interesting 'hammock' shape that modern saddles don't seem to do anymore. Does it feel good?

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Jury is still out on the seat. I'm still playing with seat height as I normally use a flat seat. I'm going back to my Reynolds bars due to the reach being too long on the Schmolkes. The bike itself rides like a top notch carbon frame should. I wasn't sure about the new campy hoods but after two rides I really like them a lot. The larger platform makes for a nice secure base when climbing out of the saddle.

BBD,
As brakes go, the AX brakes are about the best modulating brakes I've used. Yes they can lock up a wheel as well as a metal brake and they have a fine tuned feeling that I haven't found in the metal brakes.
