I read up on him a little via the web - UK Olympian and all, frame builder.

Can anyone tell me more about his frames in particular?

Many thanks!

Mark

I don't know anything aboiut his frames, but he's the owner of M Steel Cycles.

I've seen several of his frames, made by former partner Dave Yates, and would put them in the same class as Mercian. Very functional but not flashy. Very good quality at a reasonable price. I believe that M Steel is now just a bike shop and no longer offers custom frames. Yates still makes frames and offers framebuilding courses like UBI. He builds both road and mtb frames and uses lugs or filet brazing depending upon the model.

Thanks for the information.

I am awaiting photos of a Waugh made from Reynolds 531 tubing, hence the question.

Best,

I think the other posters have largely answered your questions. Dave Yates used to build the frames on Tyneside before he moved south. Unfortunately, the British model of frameshope/bikeshop is being replaced by stock bikes from Trek/Specialized et al. I think M Steels is now a big Trek/Specialized dealer. Last time I was there, there were one or two Waughs on the wall. I did talk to a guy there about getting some wheels; a grumpy guy told me that some touring wheels would cost 300 pounds, so I went, and kept going, elsewhere (Denton Cycles and Edinburgh bikes).
