Thanks for the peoploe who have purchased a raffle ticket. The pace has picked up. I am assuming that it will take a couple of months until all of the tickets. Great frames for a good cause. If you have ever seen anyone with a chrohn's espisode it is quite gut wrenching.

That is a great raffle and a great cause. My company is starting phase 3 clinical trials for Crohn's. Now that I am much more knowledgeable about Crohn's, you will be getting my support.

When will you have the drawing, or did I miss that piece of info?

Based on current sales of tickets, the raffle should be sometime this spring.

PS: A raffle ticket would make a great present..... ;)

All:

The raffles are still very active.

We are going to have a hard cut-off date of April 15th or if all tickets sell before that date the drawing will be held.

We thought that we can make two people very happy on the most taxing day of the year.

ZNFDL:

I feel lucky on this one - I could use two new frames - they are both at the top of my list - all I need now is a free Kirk and this would complete the trifecta of bike porn for charity!

Let me know where to pick up my prize(s)!!!

Seriously, I am happy to contribute.

Soulspinner:

I am currently out of the country on business. I posted a note on this forum on April 14th notifying people that not enough raffle tickets were sold to cover the cost of the frame. As per the rules all funds will be donated to the charity.

There were a combination of items which caused a lack of tickets to be sold. One item was the state of the economy, as I received numerous responses from people saying that they would have liked to purchase a ticket or two, but could not afford to due their employment uncertainty.

I also had a couple of corporate sponsors back out on their support which put me in a bind. Again this was economy related. This has caused a delay in racing RAAM from 2009 to 2010.

I have been beating myself over the inability to award the frames. When I get back in the country, I will be writing a more indepth e-mail to all people who purchased tickets. I do not have access to the donor email list on the computer that I have with me.

To date I have raised a little over $6K of which a little over $2K was from the sale of the raffle tickets. I could have subsidized the awarding of the frame from the other monies that I collected on behalf of the charity, but this would not be Kosher.

I am grateful for all of the people who either contributed directly or puchased raffle tickets. The real winners in this case, will be charity as they will have additional funds to award for reasearch grants to control and cure the disease.

Again I apoligize for not being forthcoming, but I have been away for 3 weeks.

I hope people appreciate the dilemma that I was in about awarding the frames.

Regretfully yours,

Stuart

znfdl, it appears the recent news is reaching fundraising donors via the various threads regarding this charity ride. It's a bummer Team Cross-Country for Crohn's couldn't race this year.
One out-of-the-box idea is your team could "return to the well" and ask donors to be generous with yet another "X" amount of dollars to at least enable the excitement raffles.
Coupled with the modest donation made towards medical research, it's a good thing.

While it wouldn't necessarily get Team Cross-Country for Crohn's to the starting line this year, it would generate excitement for the 2010 race campaign.
The combination of a worthy cause plus the "thrill of chance" made for a great fundraising idea. Good luck for the 2010 event!

Blue Jays: I have thought of this and will approach the other teammates on how to proceed once I return from the Bahamas. My personal feeling is to continue the raffles for several more months, but I am only one vote out of four. If the frames were awarded I would feel much better about this experience. I am taking the inability to award the frames as a personal failure and believe me I do not like to fail.

I was originally going to send a PM to znfdl, yet figured it made sense to post publicly should Team Cross-Country teammates view the thread.

The way one might view this unfortunate development as an opportunity is by moving forward with a component of the maiden fundraising effort.
It would serve to maintain the importance of ongoing Crohn's research in people's minds.
Another view is that someone who typically donates a smaller amount might have ante-upped given the unique chance to obtain a cool frameset.
If the raffle doesn't happen, that random donor might or might help the cause in 2010. It's a very tough call and I don't envy the heavy thoughts you must have.

Please note that raffle tickets are not tax deductible.

but if there is no actual raffle, and all of the funds are given to charity, the ticket price should be deductible, right?

Well, the lack of any type of award assurance is why you didn't sell the tickets in the first place. If you go back to the same people, encourage them to donate more, and then still can't award anything you might as well permanently give up on the raffle concept because noone will be back.

You set the rules, stick to them. I don't have a problem with that - but I also didn't buy tickets because of it.

Jeff,

I would suggest taking a peak at the link below. znfdl awarded a winner over the weekend.

Jeff:

I received input from a number of people. I listened to them and sold out the remanining tickets and awarded the frame much earlier than I had expected. It was also nice that someone who posts on the Serotta forum won the frame.

The change in the rules only enhanced the value of everyone's entry, as I would not have done anything to diminish a raffle tickets value.

I would like to raffle off one or more additional frames as a future fundraiser. I think that this is an easy way to support the bike industry (albeit in a small way), allow someone to win a valuable frame with a small entry amount. It also supports a charity. I view this as a win-win sitiation.

If you would like, please send me a PM, I will contact you and we can take this conversation off line.

Yours Truly,

Stuart
