The Vendee Globe, which begins in 26 days! Every edition gets more exciting, since there's more technology to broadcast and follow it. I've followed the last two pretty closely, and I can't think of another sporting event that produces in me more thrill and emotion. Just the idea of it is breath-taking! Check out the video on the VG website, which will get your sailing adrenaline flowing. Amazing stuff.

I wonder why it's not more popular in the U.S., since it seems to combine the virtues that Americans love--self-reliance, courage, endurance, etc. Perhaps lack of engines? Perhaps as video coverage of it improves, it's appeal will spread. It's huge in Europe.
