View Full Version : Does this rear drop-out look stable?

I bought this fixed gear as a commuter, but I am concerned about the dropouts. Look at how the seat stay is barely connected to the drop compared to the chainstay. Does this look stable to you?

Assuming it's well brazed it won't go anywhere.

Dave may know but is it possible the dropout extends up into the seatstay?

With that dropout - no there is no tab that extends up into the stay. If brazed well it's a solid plug of brass in there to support the tube and the loads are small.

I don't want to sound like an arse but that's not how I would do it but at the same time I would not be nervous riding it at all.

Ummm...isn't that a "track end" and not a "drop out?" :)

How would you do it?

I'd guess that the slot in that seatstay is about 8mm deep. I make them about 13-14mm deep to give better purchase and so they don't have the look that would make someone ask "is this safe?" :)

Good eyes. It's 9-10mm and another 4mm and I never would have asked. :)
