A friend sent me the following question:

"Do you know a good source for composite bike repairs? A friend has some delams on the brake surface of his wheels and wants to at least smooth it out."

(delams = engineer speak for delaminations)

Other than asking the wheel manufacturer, how is this sort of thing usually handled? Is it fixable? Is the owner SOL?

Thanks
Louis

Carbon rims I am NOT sure ceramic surfaced rims I use clear nail polish. Why NOT ask the wheel manufacture?

Agree, the wheel mfr should be the first choice. After all, if its a "mfr's defect," it might be warrantied. Barring that, contact Craig Calfee at Calfee Design. he repairs all makes of carbon frames and at one point did some wheels. Check it out:

Hmmm, on second thought, he might not be able to repair your wheels:

"Frequently rejected repair requests are ones that involve aluminum-to-carbon bonding, carbon handlebars, forks, and damage involving the braking surface of carbon wheels. "

Nevertheless, it might be worth a phone call. Good Luck!
